So at Datotel we have some pretty cool technology: everything from a 30,000 square foot data center with redundant power systems; through large switches and routers to manage the Gigs of data that traverse our network at light speeds through to the large physical server farms hosting the virtual server environments. We love to talk about the bits and bytes and the cloud computing environments that we manage.
But that’s all about us. The really exciting part is when we get to use this cool technology and environments to actually help our clients achieve their goals.
Typically, our clients’ goals have nothing to do with the technology and everything to do with two main business goals:
- Lowering the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of their technology
- Lowering their risk exposure to system downtime and data loss.
Sure, we come across other requirements, like the need to have an on demand and scalable IT infrastructure or wanting to simply remove a headache, but it normally comes back to one of those two original business goals. The fun part for us is mapping those needs and our capabilities to help the client solve those goals.
For example, recently I was talking with a prospect that came to us looking for a better answer to keeping their Microsoft Exchange email platform up and running. They were frequently having technical challenges which revolved around running out of disk space. This problem was bringing the system to a complete halt at the most inopportune times. Needless to say they came to us wanting help with the day to day management and monitoring of their dedicated system. Further joint investigation however, presented an opportunity for them to migrate to our hosted Microsoft email platform which would help them both increase the systems availability while also lowering their TCO!
A second client had a fast growing company, deploying an application through the web to their consumers. Although they knew they would experience continued growth and as such require an increase in capacity from a datacenter, processing and storage standpoint, they didn’t have the capital to invest in the necessary infrastructure nor did they want to commit to a large over build of their infrastructure to accommodate their growth. By levering our Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas) cloud offering, the client matched their required platform capacity with the demand from their clients while lowering their total cost of ownership.
We find technology fun and exciting, but more importantly, so is solving a business problems!
